St. Simeon Monastery

The Monastery of Saint Simeon, also known as Anba Hatre Monastery, is one of the best-preserved Coptic Christian fortified monastic complexes in Egypt. Built in the 6th and 7th centuries and abandoned in the 13th century, it features massive mud-brick defensive walls, a basilica church, and ancient monk cells overlooking the Nile.
